Inspired by the New York Times article, “There Are Holes on the Ocean Floor. Scientists Don’t Know Why” by Christine Chung.

there are holes

on the ocean floor.

Scientists don’t know why

but I do. You see

the world

used to be one big, fat orange.

Then the inside

got too hot and the

outside started to burn

and we had to crack

the whole thing

open

like god wringing the twisted fuck

of life out of his grief. What

I’m saying is,

the holes on the floor

are for the light to shine

through. There are parts

of ourselves we have not yet

forgiven.

When the universe was created

they forgot to tell you

how to love without leaving

all your bones

behind.

This

is how

your parents

were born.
